Sally Hansen Pacific Blue & Barry M Damson | Comparison

I have a super exciting post to share with you today, I am comparing the infamous Sally Hansen Pacific Blue, with Barry M Damson!

I won't go too much into it, but I'm sure you've heard of the drama surrounding Sally Hansen Pacific Blue, Sally Hansen decided to discontinue this shade, and replace it with a completely different polish.

I was lucky enough to win Pacific Blue in a giveaway, as the Sally Hansen Extreme Wear line is not available in the UK. Overall, I am super happy with it, but I already felt like I had that shade in the form of Damson by Barry M! Damson is a beautiful bright cobalt blue, opaque in two coats with an amazing formula. I have loved Damson for a while, so I was eager to compare it to Pacific Blue.

Barry M Damson -

This colour! I love it, it's so stunning and bright on the nail. It's a solid two formula, dries fast, and also dries super glossy, like most of the Barry M Gelly polishes.

I have found that this polish doesn't stain my nails, although I do wear a base coat. The only downside to this polish is the smell, if you have experience with blue nail polishes, a lot of them have a pigment in them which creates a skunky weird smell. However this doesn't change the consistency of the polish, it has that beautiful smooth buttery formula that most of the Barry M Gelly polishes have.

Barry M is readily available in Boots, Superdrug and some Tesco stores. They range from £2.99 to £3.99, although you can always find deals on them. I believe this polish is permanent, Barry M tend to not discontinue polishes, so this one will be available everywhere!

Sally Hansen Pacific Blue -

Of course, we've all seen it, it's Pacific Blue! A beautiful bright blue with a smooth one coat formula. I must say I'm really impressed with this polish, it doesn't have that weird smell that a lot of blues have, and of course it's a one coater! It does also dry quite glossy too.

The only negative I can think of for this polish is the bottle and brush. I have this issue with all of the Sally Hansen Extreme Wear line, the bottle is tall, which means the brush stem is also really long, this causes the polish to drip down the stem and flood the nail. Although like I said that's an issue I have with the whole line.

Sally Hansen Extreme Wear polishes retail for around $3, although I'm not sure. Also, they aren't available in the UK!

I did have a picture with the colours on the nail side by side, although I accidentally deleted it! Overall I would definitely say these are dupes. Pacific Blue is slightly more dusty, although it's impossible to tell the difference in the bottle and on the nail. Damson is a great alternative, as of course Pacific Blue is discontinued and difficult to find, especially in the UK.

Formula wise, I do prefer Pacific Blue, it is a one coat polish, whereas Damson is a definite two coater. Although saying that, they both apply smoothly and dry in a reasonable amount of time. Also, they both dry glossy, Damson possibly dries even glossier. Regarding the smell, it honestly doesn't bother me personally, and it goes away once the polish is dry. A standard Barry M polish is 10ml, which is a little below the average of 15ml, but it also not as bad as most drugstore polishes, which can be as low of 5ml. Pacific Blue is 11.8ml, so they are fairly similar in that sense.

I would honestly say it's not worth spending the money people want for Pacific Blue, Damson by Barry M is a cheap, drugstore alternative with a great formula.

I really hope you enjoyed this dupe post, I had a lot of fun writing it! Hopefully I have helped you discover a dupe for the beloved Pacific Blue!

Molly x
