Distressed Denim & American Flag | Nail Art

Hi! Today I have a really cute and fun design. This is perfect for 4th July! I have no idea how I came up with this design, sometimes random ideas just pop into my head...
Like I said, I honestly don't know how I came up with this design, I have probably seen something on the TV which subconsciously inspired me! The final look reminds me of Southern America, for some reason I think of a Sherriff when I look at my pinky!
This was my first time creating a denim effect, I found a few great videos on YouTube showing how to get this look. I started my denim nails with Sally Hansen Pacific Blue, it's not too important which shade of blue you use, because denim comes in all colours! You could even use grey for a stonewashed effect.
Then I took a lighter blue polish, and removed all the polish from the brush, I then sort of dragged the brush along the nails. After the blue has dried, take a white and use the same technique. This technique creates a realistic denim effect, you could also use a fan brush, but that's too much effort!
For the little pocket on my middle finger, I took a striper brush and painted a circle in the base colour. Then using the same striper, I took white acrylic paint and created the stitches! I finished off with some studs.
The half striped half denim nails were the easiest! I painted one half white, and one half blue. I created the denim effect on the blue half, using the same technique as before, and painted stripes on the white half. I finished them off with some square studs.
The flag nail was by far the most difficult. I started with a white base, then I created a small blue square in the corner. Then using a striper brush, I painted red stripes to create the flag. I ended up redoing this nail twice! It's really difficult for me to leave a design alone once it's painted on, I like to go back in and mess around! After the first attempt, I decided I would be happy with the second attempt, as after googling other flag designs I realised it's impossible to be perfect, and sometimes it's nice to just put out a design simply because you're proud of it!
I love how the flag nail turned out, it sort of looks distressed and fits in with the denim design! My favourite nail is my pinky, I just think it looks so cute! I hope you enjoyed this design, and realised it's okay to not be perfect, and to make mistakes! After all it's only nails. <3
